Breakneck Ridge Hiking and Camping

On October 18, the Boy Scouts of America in troop 43, from Sea Cliff, went scrambling up Breakneck Ridge near the town of Cold Spring, and camped overnight at Fahnestock State Park.  Newsweek rated Breakneck Ridge as one of the top ten day hikes in America.  The scouts enjoyed a challenging four hour scramble up the white trail along the Hudson River, and across from West Point Military Academy.  For those unsure what a scramble is, it is more difficult than regular hiking being more similar to rock climbing, using both hands and feet.  From each of the four peaks, the scouts were able to take in breathtaking views of the beautiful fall colors.  The only hiccup in the journey was a bit of cloudy weather and drizzling at the beginning, but this was no setback for the spirited scouts.  Over at the campsite the scouts enjoyed homemade dinners and a quiet and restful night in their tents.
